General Information

Upcoming Elections

Presidential General Election: November 5, 2024

Register to vote

Voters must be at least 18 by election day.

Ways to Register

  1. In person: at least 28 days before election day
    You can register to vote at Village Hall weekdays, 8:30 am–5 pm, with another village, city or township clerk, at one of the Cook County Clerk's six locations, or an Illinois Secretary of State's driver’s license facility. 

  2. Online: at least 16 days before election day
    If you have an Illinois driver's license or state ID, you may register online through the Illinois State Board of Elections website.
     
  3.  Mail: must be postmarked at least 28 days before election day
    Download a mail-in form in various languages at the Cook County Clerk Voter Registration website.
    Note that this is not the same as requesting a mail-in ballot.

  4. Grace period registration: up to and including election day
    You can also register in person (and vote) at your local elections office during the "grace period." The grace period starts 27 days before election day and ends on election day. Grace period voting does not take place at your regular polling place.

Your Sample Ballot and Local Referenda

To view your Sample Ballot and learn about Skokie-specific referenda follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Suburban Cook County voting portal.
  2. Choose “What Is On My Upcoming Ballot?” and enter your address. Click Submit.
  3. Click “View The Ballot”

Referendum items are at the bottom of the Sample Ballot.

How to Vote

There are several different ways to vote. See which one is right for you.

Early Voting

See a full list of early voting locations and hours. You can vote early at the Skokie Courthouse (5600 Old Orchard Road) or Oakton Community College (P103-104; 7701 N. Lincoln Avenue).

Any registered voter in suburban Cook County may vote early at the designated early voting location.

Absentee / Voting By Mail

Any registered suburban Cook County voter may request a mail ballot. View information about voting by mail in suburban Cook County and fill out the online application. The deadline to apply is five days before an election. 

Return your ballot in the mail or find a ballot drop-off location. Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day in order to be counted.

In Person

Polls open at 6 am and close at 7 pm statewide. Check with your local polling place to see about extensions or changes. Find your polling place through the County Clerk.

Voters can bring in newspaper endorsements, printouts, sample ballots, and smartphones. You may not take a selfie or photograph your marked ballot.
