    With Anne Rice and her son Christopher as executive producers, this adaptation elevates the beloved gothic novel to a multilayered story as it addresses issues of race, sexuality, history, and toxic relationships while remaining loyal to the original story.   • Rutherford Falls: Season One

    We have a lot of affection for this comedy TV series that follows residents of the fictional town Rutherford Falls, including two longtime friends, Reagan Wells, a member of the Minishonka Nation, and Nathan Rutherford, a local historian and descendant of the founder of the town. Nathan’s assistant is a nonbinary high school student played by Jessie Leigh, a nonbinary actor. Jessie says that a highlight of working on the show was collaborating with the writers to make their character special and more like them. Suggested by Rummanah and Sharon.

  • The Last of Us: The Complete First Season

    Is this a gritty and violent show about a global pandemic and zombie-like monsters? Yes. Does it feature complex LGBTQ+ characters and storylines, with a bit of romance? Also yes! The show features many queer characters who are not stereotypes or token characters, but very real people living authentic lives (as much as possible, given that the characters are living through the collapse of society as we know it).     This fast-paced comedy is full of laugh-out-loud moments and features one of the most diverse casts I've ever encountered in a sitcom. The characters are extremely well written, and the plotlines will keep you hooked for all eight seasons. Suggested by Amber.

    I was enthralled by this twisty, genre bending, female-centered TV series. The acting and the ensemble are fantastic. I'm so glad that it won GLAAD's Outstanding Drama series award. Suggested by Rummanah.

    Like the original L Word series, Generation Q follows a group of queer friends in Los Angeles. Featuring the original cast, along with new faces, this is steamy, dramatic, and so much fun. Suggested by Brenna.

  • She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: Seasons 1-3

    2019

    Written, created, and produced by the acclaimed graphic novelist N.D. Stevenson, this show is a wonderful reimagining of the popular 1980's animated TV show that is inclusive in both race and LGBTQ+ characters. Friendship, teamwork, romance, humor, and fully realized characters are the cornerstones of this not-to-be-missed show. Suggested by Rummanah.

  • What We Do in the Shadows: The Complete First Season

    2019

    If you prefer comedic vampire entertainment, catch this TV series. Based on the 2014 movie of the same name, created by Jemaine Clement, written by Jemaine and Taika Waititi; they also directed several of the episodes. This quirky documentary-style series follows four Staten Island vampire housemates and one overworked familiar named Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), who steals every scene.     Here is an animated series that completely subverted my expectations! While it is incredibly colorful and can be silly at times, it highlights the importance of love and acceptance and really is a fantastic example of LGBTQ+ representation done right. Suggested by Amber.

  • Saved by the Bell: Season One

    2021

    A revival of the popular sitcom that ran from 1989-1992, in which several from the original cast reprise their roles, all centered around Bayside High. There are familiar humorous situations blended with timely subjects as well as a diverse, inclusive cast of new characters, allowing more viewers to feel seen and represented. Transgender actor Josie Totah, who has a main role as a trans student, is also one of the show’s producers. It won the 2022 GLAAD Award for Outstanding Comedy Series. Suggested by Sharon.
