New STEAM Kits!
July 24, 2017
STEAM kits continue to be popular with patrons at Skokie Public Library. In case this acronym is new to you, STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts & design, and math. We curate our STEAM kit collection to provide unique, portable learning experiences for Skokie cardholders of all ages.
Check out our YouTube channel for short videos of select kits, like this one on Bridge Building:
Here are a few more of the latest additions to our STEAM kit collection:
Sphero 2.0
Sphero’s name describes this toy quite precisely. This spherical robot is controlled by smartphone or tablet and comes with an orange nubby cover which can be used to give it extra grip as it rolls around at speeds of up to four miles per hour.
Jumbie Jam
The Jumbie Jam is a steel drum that's easy to learn and fun to play. It's very durable, allowing you to confidently create sounds with the accompanying drum sticks and helpful guide book.
Measurement
Anything can be measured if you have the right tools. The Measurement kit contains measuring jars, cups, and spoons. Also included is a balance set, tape measure, a stop watch, and several books to teach you how to take proper measure of things.
Exploring Fossils
Start exploring ancient fossilized mysteries. A magnifying glass, chart, and books will aid you as you examine the fossil collection included in this kit.
Ozobot Evo
The latest version of Ozobot Evo is here! This small, smart, cute robot toy helps you learn about coding and programming. It lights up, makes sounds, and moves around avoiding obstacles thanks to Infrared Proximity Sensing.
Bloxels
Bloxels let you build your own video games without having to learn complicated code. To create a game, just use the game board and blocks included in the kit, and download the Bloxel app.
